AUGUSTA ALEXANDER
EMOTIONAL ANATOMY

13.10 - 15.11.2023

What are we seeking in contemporary art as viewers? Emotions. We want to feel something and be more alive.

What are artists looking for in contemporary art, creating it? Freedom, way out of the emotions. They are communicating all their hopes, desires and fears through their works.

In Augusta’s works you can be easily distracted by joyful flowers and bright colours. But it’s only the first layer. Looking at works deeply you can see a hurricane of feelings, thoughts, doubts.

As Augusta Alexander said: “Painting has provided me an opportunity to reconnect with my inner child, to delve into suppressed feelings, and to reintegrate them into my adult life.”

To understand his creative process, it’s important to note that fear and anxiety have consistently accompanied Alexander throughout his life, especially during his childhood. He was drawing excessive amounts of symmetric and very detailed, graphic drawings. He loved the appearance of everything that was proportionally balanced.

And in the new works you see how the artist overcomes this symmetry. He is hypnotised by asymmetry. He reached for freedom in his feelings and poured out his raw emotions into his works.

“These flowers serve as representations of my emotions, particularly the positive and exquisite ones. They frequently consist of diverse body parts, arranged to convey a range of positive emotions and their complex interplay that I sometimes find difficult to express otherwise,” - Augusta Alexander said.

And we all are invited to feel this freedom and not be afraid of anything together with the artist.

Aleksandr Blanar
director / curator

Augusta Alexander was born and raised in Vienna, Austria. The artist received a technical education in mechatronics, but has been interested in the art world and painting since childhood. A pivotal moment in his journey came in 2016, when he made his debut as a model at the Moschino show
in London. Since then he has worked with brands Versace, Bottega Veneta, Dsquared, Dolce & Gabbana, GCDS, collaborated with magazines such as V-Magazine, Numero, Vman, Lofficie, GQ and 10 Men.
During the rapid development of his modelling career, Augusta Alexander began to work on his artistic series. In a short time he gained popularity on social media as an artist, Influencer and model. His experience in the fashion industry has shaped his artistic path - in abstract works he combines his interest in human body forms and colors.
