Stefano Cagol

Stefano Cagol (born 1969) is an Italian contemporary artist specialising in performance art and art-installations.
Stefano has participated in NOOR Riyadh 2024, OFF Biennale Cairo in 2019 and 2023, the Venice Biennale in 2011, 2013, and 2022, and the Water Light Festival, Italia in all editions from 2019 to 2023. He received the Italian Council Award in 2019 and 2023. He first received international recognition for his artwork, The Ice Monolith, exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2013. In it, a block of ice from the Alps was filmed melting over three days, raising questions about the impending climate crisis.
He studied at the Accademia di Brera in Milan and received a postdoctoral fellowship from the Canadian government at Toronto Metropolitan University.
His practice encompasses video, installation, and performance art and reflects on issues of climate, energy, and borders, and stands out for its ability to oscillate between technology and nature.
Stefano Cagol is an artist primarily associated with Conceptual Art, Land Art, and Environmental Art/Eco Art. His research revolves around the themes of human interference in nature, and the relationship between humans and the environment. He works across various media, including sculpture, installation, video, photography, and sound, often incorporating elements such as fire, ice, and radiation. Cagol's stylistic approach is characterised by a conceptual presence of individual elements, shamanic solitude, and a reflection on the impact of human actions on the planet.
